The First Good Thing On Earth

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. Genesis 1:1-3 (CSBBible)

A man in heaven saw the earth filled with darkness, he also saw some few lights and asked an angel what the few lights means, "they are the serious Christians in the world" the Angel replied.

What is the First Good Thing on Earth?

Light is the first good thing on earth. Light is a paramount thing in life. It is so important that before God could start creating any other thing; he had to create the light first. He knew without it, he might make mistakes in the creation process. After creating the light, God said “it was good”; this was the first good thing that God commented as good.

Light is so powerful that as a matter of necessity, darkness must move back; the darkness will travel backwards.

There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.  There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. John 1:6-9 (NASB)

Just as Jesus was the light of the world, Christians are supposed to be as lights in the society.

“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT)

When there is a light Christian in an environment, the people around should be happy they are safe.

It's quite unfortunate that these days, we have plenty of Christians who are dangerous to move with. When the people look up to them for proper right living, they eventually disappoint them. What can you say about a pastor / worker who is sleeping and impregnating members and neighbours around? What can you say about a Christian who always looks forward for bribe? 

The devil has counterfeited the salvation of so many Christians that unbelievers would say they would rather go to hell than go to Church. The modern-day Christians have left the basic principles of being the light of the world. The world of darkness is gradually taking over the Church and Christians who are to be watchful are now dancing to their tune. Christians are the ones to show the world the way and how to do things, but the reverse is the case. Many Christians are failing in their responsibilities as the light of the world; they even find it difficult to approach God in prayer daily. They prefer a lifetime hardworking with little blessings than a day alone with God with a lifetime blessings.

How to be the Light of the World

As the light of world, you are expected to:

• Daily depending on the word of God as the strength needed for each day.  In a movie I watched sometime ago, a man was handed over by God to be tried by the devil. The devil made several attempts to bring him down, all to no avail. The devil later discovered that the source of his strength is his study and meditation of the Bible. The devil then created circumstances for him not to have time to study the scriptures. Unfortunately, the man could no longer stand the pressure due to the lack of strength as he had no time to study the scriptures anymore. There are many benefits of studying the word of God like making you wise, giving you knowledge, giving you revelation of things to come, etc.

• Be at peace with everybody. 

Let your desire be for peace with all men, and to be made holy, without which no man may see the Lord; Hebrews 12:14 (BBE). 

Make no one your enemies. Do not keep malice with anyone. It is sad that many are bearing everlasting grudges with their neighbours just because of money. A Christian who always feels being cheated because of money may not be able to shine as the light. Though Solomon said money answers all things, however, practically there is little money does. Money can get you a bed but not sleep; a house but not comfort; a car but not safety; a beautiful partner but not a godly home; money can even get you a bible but not salvation. Money has sentenced many to hell unconsciously. Many have entered into covenant with Satan without their will just because of money. If you as a Christian always depend on money to give you the basic things of life, then it means you are depriving and limiting God of his duties in your life as the Jehovah Jireh. When Jesus learnt about the hunger of the thousands he was teaching, he was not worried because he relied on god's provision.

“No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:24 (NLT)

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:10 (NIV)

It is good to have money but the love of it is bad.

• Share the gospel with unbelievers around, never be ashamed to profess what you believe and is giving you joy. Read more

• Be a man of integrity. Never be a cunning man. Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond this comes from the evil one. Matthew 5:37 (NIV). Try to always be a straight forward person, let people know your stands on issues and you stand by it. A lot of Christians do not keep to their promise. Men who do not keep to his promise gets devalued before men and God. When you know you are not good at keeping your promise to people, go for deliverance prayers as quickly as possible before you find yourself in a mess.

When you fail to be a light, darkness which is the devil is always around to torment you and the final destination of a dark Christian is hell.

If you think you are not living as a light today, go to God and cry unto Him with a repentant heart and He will light you up again.
