Understanding the whole Armor of God

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-- Ephesians 6:10-18 (NKJV)

Being instructed to put on the whole armour of God signifies that Christians are soldiers of Christ. The day someone becomes born again, he/she has been automatically enlisted as a soldier to fight battles. The battle is always between Heaven and Hell, light and darkness, good and evil, righteousness and unrighteousness. The kingdom of darkness constantly wage war and attack the kingdom of light. Therefore, the children of light must be ready to fight back so as not to be a prey to the dark world.

Apostle Paul listed to the Ephesian Christians, the things which are needed to fight the battle victoriously, which are truth, righteousness, gospel of peace, faith, salvation, word of God and prayer. He then associated/compared these things with the arms being worn by the Roman soldiers of his days.

For a Christian not to be a convert of the devil, he/she must make sure this armour is present in his/her life.

It is never the desire of the devil that God should have people in His kingdom, therefore, a Christian must be determined to be in defensive and offensive mode.

WHY YOU MUST PUT ON THE ARMOUR

1. To be able to stand against the tricks/wiles of the devil - Ephesians 6:11
2. To be able to stand in the evil days (life trials & temptations) - vs. 6:13.
3. It protects and secures your eternal life.
4. To be a useful vessel in the hands of the Almighty.
5. It enhances the relationship with the Holy Spirit.
