The Helmet is a piece of armour used by the roman soldiers to protect their heads.
Salvation is the process of being saved from the power of sin especially the original sin (Adam). It is being translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light (Colossians 1:13). It is the redemption from the wrath of God through Christ. Salvation is what welcomes a sinner into the kingdom of God.
Salvation made Jesus – the Son of God – to die a horrible death on the cross. It gave the devil a big blow and disappointment on his terrible plan for man. Salvation is the best gift that God gives to man free of charge. It is to be born again by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Salvation is the work done by the Trinity.
Father - sent his son Jesus. “For God had such love for the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever has faith in him may not come to destruction but have eternal life.” John 3:16 (BBE)
Jesus (Son) - Surrendered Himself for the sacrifice. “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.” John 10:17-18 (NLT)
Holy Spirit - performs the transformation of new birth. "Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life." John 3:3-6 (NLT).
Benefits Of Salvation
- It gives you more access to heavenly resources. Your request – healing, protection, provision, etc – will be given more priority in heaven than the unsaved folks' request.
- It makes you to have peace of mind with God as you have been adopted as His dear child.
- Salvation delivers you from the wrath of God that is coming to human race. “It is on account of these [very sins] that the [holy] anger of God is ever coming upon the sons of disobedience (those who are obstinately opposed to the divine will)” Colossians 3:6 (AMP)
- It brings deliverance from our sinful nature.
- It limit Satan's schemes in every area your life. The devil will have limited access to your life because you are no more under the original sin – the sin Adam sinned. He can no longer hold you accountable for your sins unless you go back to them again.
How To Receive Salvation And Its Evidence
- For you to receive salvation, you need to acknowledge your sinful nature, confess your sins, repent and forsake them. Then believe and accept Jesus as your Lord and the Saviour of your sins.
- The evidence of being saved is the witness of the Holy Spirit. “And the Spirit himself speaks to our spirits and makes us sure that we are God's children.” Romans 8:16 (ETRV). The Holy Spirit convicts the sinner of his sins, give him a sense of what is right and wrong and make him realise in inevitable judgment that is coming.
"When the Helper comes, he will show the people of the world how wrong they are about sin, about being right with God, and about judgment. He will prove that they are guilty of sin, because they don't believe in me. He will show them how wrong they are about how to be right with God. The Helper will do this, because I am going to the Father. You will not see me then. And he will show them how wrong their judgment is, because their leader has already been condemned.” John 16:8-11 (ETRV)
Why the Helmet Associated is with Salvation
A Helmet is very important for survival at the warfront. It protects the brain, which controls all other parts of the body. When the brain is damaged, the other body parts are useless.
Likewise, your salvation is necessary for the whole armour to function effectively. It also gives you an assurance of survival during the attacks of the enemy.
How to Keep Your Helmet of Salvation Functioning
- Renew your mind. “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (NLT). Allow the truth of God's word to wipe out anything contrary to His commandments i.e old ideas, opinions and worldly views must be replaced. When you fail to change from the way you used to view matters, your salvation will be questioned by unbelievers. Still thinking the way the people of the world thinks will not help your salvation.
- Reject doubts that arise from circumstances. Many are losing their salvation as a result of fear and doubt. What they ought do with faith, they are skeptical in doing them. I was told of a brother who had a dream. In the dream, he saw a man who came to him to send him an errand to do some photocopies at a particular place. He dashed off quickly to the place. As he was about to enter the building, an unconscious person was being taken out by some people; he stopped the people and prayed for the unconscious person; immediately, the person was revived. Everyone was astonished, and then he woke up from his dream. In the next couple of minutes, that same man who sent him on errand in the dream came to him and sent him that same errand. Likewise, as he was about to the place, he saw an unconscious person being taken out, then he remembered his dream, he became puzzled of what to do, he remembered he prayed for that person and he person got revived. The fear of ‘if I should pray and nothing happens’ sets in. he was looking endlessly while the person was driven to the hospital. Fear will not allow your salvation to function at its best.
- Be eternally focused. Anything that does not have a good eternal significance should be disregarded immediately. Desist from things that will not add value to your pursuit of heaven.
We wear our salvation as a protective Helmet by choosing to guard our minds from excessive worldly influence and instead, think on things that honours Christ.
“For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].” Philippians 4:8 (AMP)
